The much-anticipated Dolly Parton musical is headed to Broadway in just a few months. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Dolly: A True Original Musical will begin previews at the St. James Theatre in New York City in December 2026. The official opening night will be on January 19, 2027, which happens to be Dolly Parton’s 81st birthday. The musical originally premiered in Nashville in 2025 and tells the story of Dolly Parton’s incredible rise to fame from her humble roots in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The musical includes hit songs “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “9 to 5.” It also features original songs written for the show.
Dolly Parton’s Musical Means So Much to Her
Dolly Parton has long wanted to create a Broadway musical, so this is a dream come true.
“My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really, and I can’t wait to present it to you on Broadway. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I’ve enjoyed livin’ it,” Dolly Parton said.
Producer Adam Speers shared his excitement about the show opening on Broadway on Dolly’s birthday.
“After everything we learned during our world premiere in Nashville, we’re shaping the show and deepening the storytelling so that the Broadway production fully captures the spirit of this amazing woman,” Speers said. “To be opening the show on Dolly’s 81st birthday is not only a celebration of a milestone, but of a life shaped by generosity, courage, and purpose that, in this moment, feels not only uplifting and inspiring, but essential.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers have not yet announced a cast for the Broadway show.
