The retail landscape continues to evolve to meet customers’ changing needs. Many people opt for online shopping and pickup orders, so stores are changing to accommodate those needs and desires. Target understands shifting retail trends and wants to make sure customers continue to choose Target. In a news release, the company announced new stores and remodels that will make shopping easier and more convenient while enabling same-day fulfillment. Target hopes these changes will encourage more shoppers.

“These investments are all about making Target an even easier, more inspiring, and friendly place to shop,” Laurie Mahowald, senior vice president, Target Properties, shared. “We’re evolving our stores in ways that reflect how guests shop today — from more intuitive layouts to expanded assortments — while also strengthening the role our stores play in fulfillment and our long-term growth.”

The Changes Mark Target’s First Major Redesign in More Than a Decade

According to Target, the changes included expanded grocery departments with dry, fresh, and frozen selections. Target will modernize store fixtures and incorporate Modern décor and fixtures. New merchandising focuses on engaging customers. Customers will also change to Order Pickup, Drive Up, and Exchanges & Returns, and update checkout systems. Modern amenities will be included in updated restrooms and designated nursing spaces. Select stores will have natural refrigeration systems, more efficient lighting, and HVAC systems that not only help reduce emissions and energy costs.

Target also plans to open six new locations on May 17, 2026. These stores will bring the best of Target’s changes to brand-new stores.
